Jesus to a Child is a song written and sung by George Michael, released as a single by Virgin Records in 1996.
The song is George Michael's first domestic hit for four years, reaching number one in the UK charts in January 1996. It thus became his first solo single to reach number one, his first single from a studio albums (all previous number ones were "off album" projects, even back in the Wham days!), and on the Billboard Hot 100 it was the highest new entry (seventh place) for a British artist in the past 25 years.

The song is a melancholy tribute to Michael's Brazilian partner Anselmo Feleppa, with whom he had performed in Rio de Janeiro in 1991. Feleppa had died of AIDS two years earlier, and George Michael had been unable to write to him for the last 18 years. months, so he decided to dedicate "Jesus to a Child" to him, which was composed in less than an hour.

The true identity of the subject of the song, and the nature of their relationship, was the cause of much discussion at the time, given that the English singer had not yet clearly declared his homosexuality, which will only happen in 1998.

"Jesus To A Child" was the first of six singles released by Older. The single was the sixth released under his own name, rather than that of Wham! at number one in England, although only the third to be sung exclusively by him.
