This collab is open to all. This song (written in 1788 by beloved Scottish poet Robert Burns) has become a New Years tradition in many English-speaking countries. The original makes no specific reference to New Years, but the sentiment is timeless. Sing out and celebrate longstanding friendship, because these are indeed the Good Old Days! And if they don't feel quite like that yet then just you wait a little while. Remember old acquaintances and think.of them from time to time, because our shared memories of our common past are things to be cherished as the years go by.

I'm starting with Dougie McClain's lovely version of this historic song, even though it's in an odd key (Eb) because he sings all the verses with a lot of heart. Lyrics in English and old Scots (with English translation in parentheses).

I would love to have a few friends sing this with me! There are at least 4 verses to sing solo and lots of.choruses to join in. Harmony is good.

Bonus points for singing the Scots parts with proper pronunciation. Let Dougie be your guide.

So far I'm singing a song about friendship all by myself. Any friends want to join in?

Lyrics and chords added under Lyrics tab. Copy out to text editor with a monospace font (like Courier or Notepad's default Consola) to see the bars and chords line up properly.
