Album: Physical Graffiti (1975)

The band developed this song during soundchecks on their 1973 United States tour. Jimmy Page worked up the riff in his Plumpton Place manor house and brought it to the band during the Physical Graffiti sessions. The song went through a number of changes as they worked it up, becoming one of the funkier Zeppelin songs by the time they were done. The credited writers on the track are Page and Robert Plant.

Like "The Lemon Song," this song is dripping with desire, and does not mention the title in the lyrics. "Wanton" can mean willful and deliberate, but also sexually indiscriminate and lacking inhibition, which is probably what Robert Plant had in mind when he wrote the lyric. The "silent woman" he sings about could be a metaphor or a real person; mystery is a hallmark of his songwriting.

Jimmy Page used his "backward echo" on the guitar solo, where the echo is heard before the note.

@Teslarian - Mate sorry I have not replied sooner - Got so many invites at the moment and i am having to decline most and focus on the songs I can turn around quickly- Ill sit this out for the moment and hopefully you can get some new drummers coming in who can showcase themselves.

I did a bass track. This is definitely a pick song for bass. Can't imagine it can be finger plucked. Anyways, let me know if my track is acceptable. I can redo if need. Also, I kept my volume at the comfort spot I usually keep it at yet something sounds distorted but I can't put my finger on it although I don't hear the distortion in DAW.

Thanks for the bass buddy! This tune is fun, huh? Gladly accepted. I was able to get rid of the distortion by lowering the backing track. Another challenging Zeppelin tune for drums for sure. I invited Ross but haven't heard back. I want to do another take. Tring to dial in Jimmy's tone and just haven't quite got it yet. I have a new piece of gear arriving today that has this song's name written all over it. :)
