@Clint you pretty much nailed the guitar tone for this one. Tell me about your signal chain and effects.

Surferbeto Well, thanks! Using a Squier strat in bridge humbucker position. Pedals: Rowin Noise Gate, Donner Metal Head Distortion. For lead piece, same but added a Stax Phaser. Also had a Donner Reverb on some of the takes but can’t remember if I used it. For Amp, it’s a crappy Fender Frontman 15G :) No one has ever asked me about guitar gear before! Do you also play guitar?

@Clint_the_Cool_Guy: Yes, I've played guitar since I was little. Circa 2008 I got drafted to play im a church rock band that was really into U2, so I built a serious pedal board over the course of the next couple years. As I worked on all those Edgy tones. I started getting a little more serious about singing a couple years ago and have been doing a lot of that on BH recently.

@Clint_the_Cool_Guy: I've played this song on guitar before, in a casual around the campfire kind of way. Never made a serious study of tje tones and careful review of the technique before. A classic piece of New Wave rock!

@Surferbeto: That is really cool. Edge uses a ton of different effects and sounds. He's a great guitarist - really hard to emulate! I'm glad you'll be joining in on this song later when you can get to it

@Clint_the_Cool_Guy: Edge's parts are often charmingly, ingeniously simple - but layered with effects they sound fancier than they really are. I've had many of what I think of as "Edge moments" when I'm trying to figure out how he played some riff and then I realize it was something much simpler than I thought. I just laugh to.myself and think, "You're a clever guy Edge - that is elegantly simple." There's a charming scene in the movie 'It Might Get Loud' where Edge shows how to play an iconic lick in the Outlook of With Or Without You and it's just bonehead simple. And he laughs and says, "What if you went over to your friend's house and said hey let me play you this great new link I just cam up with it goes like this! And they'd just look at you and laugh." So he seems to have a sense of humor about his music - a fine thing in any rock star.

@Surferbeto: That's really cool. He sounds like a low key kind of guy, which is rare in rock "stars"

@Clint_the_Cool_Guy: Well maybe. During the same time period I was becoming an Edge cover specialist he was waging what became the.most expensive legal and lobbying battle in CA history to build a.poorly conceived megamansion in downtown Malibu (which happens.to also be in the idle of the National Park I work for). Here's a summary of that story. https://www.lamag.com/citythin....kblog/the-edge-u2-ma

@Surferbeto: Interesting.... you work for a National Park? That’s cool. That seems like a good kind of job. You should start a U2 collab! I’d join in
