thanks man! yes. this is how i prefer doing covers. Its great to be able to copy things exact to the original but it is even greater, to me at least, if you can make it your own, interpret it in your own unique way, it isn't just a copy. It's yours

@teslarian: To my mind that is what covers are really all about. This is one reason the Jerry Garcia Band was so great despite playing no original songs.

And frankly, I I find that the BH convention of always starting a collab with an original recording of a song as backing track sometimes limits my ability to freely interpret a song. Ihaven't done this much yet, but I think about basing collabs on clicktracks or some other self-produced demo cover rather than original source material. It's something I aspire to.
