CyberBass and everyone else involved - That was the perfect finishing touch for this collab, Rob. Well played, as always! And your timing adjustment sounds right on to me. I have done another stereo mix. If you all can agree with that, I'll mark this one as Completed. Feel free to submit any final tweaks of your own in DAW. I tried to recreate the same stereo effect as the original, and mix levels accordingly. Opinions?

CopyCat - I'm no student of the original, but generally bass and drums are center.

@CyberBass: I agree about bass and drums usually being centered. I almost always mix that way, but for this song I thought I'd try to match the original mix the best I could, just because I think it's kinda cool. If you go into DAW and solo the BT and turn up the volume and listen with headphones, you'll hear the original mix with all the original panning. I hear drums and bass on the left, and guitar and keys on the right, and Jim's vocal centered. I noticed in the mix you submitted, you left the panning alone, and only lowered your bass level a bit. So you thought the bass was set too high? Anyone else feel that way about the bass? Personally, I want to hear it, so I set it at 50% so it wouldn't stand out too much. I kinda like it there at 50% but I'm willing to lower it to where you set it, if you really want that. But I'd like to get everyone's opinion about the bass level first. We should all agree, I think.

@CopyCat : Ooops, I did pan bass and drums to center but maybe after I saved the mix. Anyway, you are correct the original is similar to this. As long as the right side doesn't feel like there's a hole in it - cool with me.

@CyberBass: We'll wait for everyone's opinion about the original mix. If we decide to center the bas and drums, we should probably keep some stereo effect by separating the guitar and keys to opposite sides, even though they're on the same side in the original. That would be better than all mono, IMO.

CopyCat I wonder if we could cut off the guitar hum at the beginning?

CopyCat OK, now I'm nitpicky. Just noticed your track seems to be clipping. I wonder if your original track you uploaded had this problem?

@pcderic: Regarding the guitar hum at the beginning; We can certainly clean that up before the final mix. No worries. And regarding the clipping in the vocal track; I noticed that too. I must have boosted the track gain unnecessarily. I have saved the original unboosted (non-clipping) vocal track, so I can swap those tracks when I get the chance. No problem. I appreciate your ears noticing things that can improve. We should all do that, IMO.

When did this become "she gets high"? I've been listening to this on the radio for like 50 years - are you telling me this was censored? ? I never owned the album...or did they re-issue the tune with diff lyrics?

CyberBass - Yeah, the version we're all familiar with has the word "high" cut out. Interesting to hear what Jim actually sang there. If you google it, you'll probably learn something about that.

ftele - I think your recording level is good. No signs of clipping in your waveform. Again, a very cool and fitting performance, and so quickly done. Thanks a lot!! I'd say your timing sounds right set at around .035 and I panned tracks similar to the original stereo recording. So far, I think we all sound really good together on this. Even with the BT muted. Looking forward to Rob's bass track next!

@Copycat ftele I agree. I like the jazzy guitar version you've done here. Blends really with the jazzy drumming from Bdajaysus. Very cool! There's a nice little black corner for you there Mr CyberBass Rob (no rush)...

CopyCat ftele Bdajaysus CyberBass I uploaded a different keys track, with a Rhodes-sounding E.P. instead of organ, to hopefully gel better with the guitar/drums style we have so far (and leaving more room for the bass). Let me know if you prefer the previous version I uploaded? I left it in Draft. Copycat, the guitar track will probably need to be higher in the mix.

@pcderic: I like the Rhodes sound. Once again, very well played and mixes in well after a minor timing adjustment. Volume levels are always subject to change. Keys may be too low in the current mix. Everyone is welcome to submit volume changes in DAW. So far sounding great!
