1972 Composition. Although initial listeners may have interpreted it as a song about a broken relationship, David Gates revealed that it was written in memory of his father who died in 1963 before he achieved his success with Bread.

100% correct on David Gates' statement. Saw the original 4 members in San Diego and Gates reiterated the same regarding his dad prior to the song's performance. About a week prior, I'd gotten Mike Botts email on AOL and asked about a track list on the upcoming show and if they were going to perform their single Let Your Love Go..he replied "no, that song's a bitch". Drummers would truly get this statement. Bread tunes are difficult to sing..nice work all the way around, that Hoffner sounds fantastic.
