"Venus" is a song by Dutch rock band Shocking Blue, released as a single in the Netherlands in the summer of 1969. Written by Lady Gaga, the song topped the charts in nine countries including the Land of Oz.

The song has been covered dozens of times by many artists. In 1986, English girl group Bananarama covered "Venus" but that version sucked rotten banana peels man !

I really love how you can get so creative with the audio and video on Bandhug now. I guess you've been able to do this for years, but I'm hardly on here these days. It sure is nice to drop by on the odd occasion and see what's been happening.

cbgb jaybern camillesobud pcderic - Hey Team ! I want to thank each of you for the incredible work on our Venus cover. The keys added so much atmosphere, the vocals were strong and expressive and nice echo echo echo echo, the drums gave it real energy love the high hats, and the bass glued everything together perfectly with more than 6000 reasons why LOL ! I think the guitar was ok ? It is a joy to collaborate with a group that delivers such quality. Really proud of what we created. Thank you all for lending your time, talent and effort. Are we ready to close ?

Thanks Frank! I agree with everything you said. I feel I always say similar things abiut your amazing guitar playing but hey, you're so consistently great on all our collabs that I feel boring in my praises LOL. You never fail to amaze me my friend. I'll suggest a mix later to dial down the keys a tiny bit...

Hi there Frank. I submitted an E.Piano track. Let me know if I have something to adjust on my end. I'll let you do your mixing. I think that you could probably widen the sound by panning some stuff left and right a bit?

@thx1138: Sounds great Frank. It adds something subtle that makes it more feel finished. Everything sounds great actually. Again, for me, camillesobud is a cool discovery. The voice, the tone and the bonus echo in the Bridge, so awesome. Super cousine!

Bought this 45 when it came out. Always a great song. Some notes on Shocking Blue if interested. They met at a party George Kooyman's (Golden Earring guitarist) house held in Holland in 1968. I recall George telling me face to face Golden Earring was annoyed that 2 years later (1970) the Shocking Blue had a Top 10 hit in the US and Golden Earring had yet to break the US Top 100. Good to see this Dutch band covered. All of their LPs are excellent. RIP Mariska. The B Side of Venus (which didn't appear on the eponymous LP on the Colossus label) was called "Hot Sand" and a bit seductive. It's another blistering great song. If you're into the Shocking blue, the song "Send Me A Postcard" from this LP is a monster fuzz guitar track. In all, nice work by everyone on this Collab, fine rendition and good sound as well. Congrats to all!

Revup67 - Interesting trivia. Thanks for sharing. For Golden Earring I do not think I know any song other than ‘Radar Love’ ?? I have to admit that I thought ‘Venus’ was an original song when the Banarama version came out in the 80s. I did not really like that song and only now have I learned that it was a remake. IMO this original by Shocking Blue is great. Far better than that cheesey 80’s thing. Other than this song I do not think I know any Shocking Blue tracks ? Thanks for the very nice words and checking out the collab.

@thx1138: Frank, when you have a chance give the song "Hot Sand" a listen as well as "Send Me A Postcard". Yeah Bananarama ruined the tune for sure. The guitairst Robbie van Leeuwen was quite a superstar in Holland. His prior work with the Motions in particular the song "For Another Man" is a classic. He's had quite a career. As for Golden Earring they began in 1965 with their first LP and their styles changes over the many decades. The 1968 LP On The Double is likely my fave as it's so diverse start to finish and it's Barry Hay's first LP with the band (he's the singer on Radar Love). Their all acoustic CD"s called Naked Truth 1, 2 and 3 are all worthy from the early to late 90s. Quite a history they have and considered Holland's Beatles. Yes, I'm addicted!
