Hi John I added the bass and orgun tracks for your review..Please let me know if you want any changes..Thanks for the invite..
Bdajaysus... i remember the Bandhub days. I was into Doyle a lot then, not sure i can pull itoff but i'll give it go.
Back in those days i was playing and singing a lot. No promises... lol
I'll be here in a few days Hal and CC this has Hal written all over it, we already covered this on Bandhub and it was Hal introduced me to Doyle Bramhall
CopyCat..no need to sit in the audience. you are welcome to take the vocals, but its Bdajaysus collab so Johns' call/
ftele - I don't want the vocals. I don't even know the song. Just want to hear you sing it. I can imagine, you probably sing as soulfully as you play.
thx1138 invite accepted...sorry it took this long to accept as I got busy today and I just got logged in......I will do it in a couple hours.and thanx for the invitation....D.L.I.
@thx1138: Hi Frank here is a track for you I hope you like it , thanks for the invit .
ksam - Absolutely fantastic my friend ! You rock ! Spotlights are a nice touch too ! Sorry about the delay...I musta overlooked the notice...You shoulda knocked on my door and yelled 'Come On Let's Go !' and I woulda pubbed sooner ! Thanks a bunch man ! I just rewatched the movie after several years and felt like covering this. Honoured that you have joined me !
@thx1138: No problem Frank, forget it, it can happen to everyone, I'm glad you like it, thank you for publishing, I saw the film a few years ago, I loved it, very moving at the end when on the radio he announces the plane crash I still remember it I almost cried Lol
I'll need to add another acoustic guitar part during the quiet section. It's different that what I am playing, and they have two acoustics in that section.
Byrdlander - Oh Man, that Byrdland. Such a sweet sound. I love that crunchy distortion on it. Another outstanding track from James, thank you! Can't wait to hear what else you have coming.
@CopyCat : That is my 59 Les Paul Standard re-issue. It's an awesome Les Paul. I don't think I've played the Byrdland on Bandhug, but I did ona couple of tunz on the Hub. Doing taxes tonight (I owe), so maybe some late night madness or tomorrow. Did I see that Dennis said uploades were allowed now?
Thanks for the comments on my tone. I used a 55 Fender tweed deluxe amp pedal from Universal Audio, which is the company that produces the Apollo interfaces I use. This system has Sharc processing in the interface, so that you can use plugins such as compression and effects in real time when you record, so I don't have to worry about applying that Bandhug even though I don't have access to the tools. It's a great system, and it's a long way from where I started on Bandhub when it was new.
@Byrdlander : Yes, I did read the contest rule change about uploads. That is great news, and that is also why I have decided to take advantage of it. I'm currently (as you may see) consolidating some tracks to reduce our total number of tracks in the collab. This helps pages load faster, and makes recording easier for everyone. Gotta get back to it now...
It's unfortunate we have to consolidate because of performance. It's like working with an old 4 track machine, having to bounce down tracks and never being able to change the mix within that bounce, or adding a bunch of work to do it, and then you still have the limitation of having to raise and lower an individual track within the "bounced" track, and it does reduce fidelity of each individual track. But then I'm an old fart who just wants it to work without all this fuss! Forgive me.
@Byrdlander : Haha, You're forgiven. I get what you're saying. Rest assured, these changes don't have to be permanent, because I'm not deleting any of the original tracks. Just gonna store them in Drafts. Mix changes will still be possible, no worries.
@CopyCat : Thanks for getting it! Yeah, for example, I might want to solo my two acoustic tracks to get tone and relative balance, same with my electrics. So anyway, we can work together if I need a change. Thanks, man.
@Byrdlander : In Drafts, your electric guitar track with your head cut out of the frame.. That was in there. Did you plan to use that one, or can we delete it? I prefer not to save anything in Drafts that we're not using in the collab. If it's scrap, lets delete it, OK?
ATTENTION EVERYONE INVOLVED HERE:
I have moved some tracks (temporarily) from Studio into Drafts, in order to lighten the load for future submitters. Please don't delete anything in Drafts for now. Those tracks will all be eventually returned to the Main Studio and republished with the other tracks. Doing this should shorten the waiting time for pages to load after recording. Thanks for reading.
cDub - Now THAT'S a bass track! Hell yeah, Man. It's so nice to have you back in action here on Bandhug (at least for now). I hope you plan to hang around and do some more collabs, Bud. Needless to say, your track is flawless as always, and very well in sync, I might add. I did give it a couple of volume boosts, and a touch of EQ as you suggested. It's mixing in beautifully, my man. Thank you very much for putting your time into our nicely evolving collab here. Outstanding work, once again!!
Glad to be back and will join some more. Brings back some memories. The track could use some dampening of the higher freqs to get rid of some of the string noise and excessive harmonics. Maybe even add a touch of bottom. However, we know that diifferent speakers and people hear things differently. Just sounds a little twangy.
@cDub: Clay CopyCat can do some post production offline with the other collabs but for this competition that's not allowed, great to see and hear you man
@Bdajaysus: there is an on-board EQ in the DAW but non-subscribers (me) can't use it.
@cDub: Good observation. I shall tweak the EQ as you say the best I can, but I don't plan to publish again until the next track is submitted, FYI.
@cDub: Have a listen to your track now., in Studio or DAW. I just changed the EQ a bit. Is that the sound you wanted? Also, here's a screenshot of the new EQ settings... https://jmp.sh/s/kXSutOjIy5C0cPKormxE
@CopyCat : Much better with the string and finger noise gone. Let's see how it sounds when the guitar comes in.
Thanks for the able soundtrack @DESEL88_DRUMS! That's a solid and serviceable opening bid.
A couple of impressions:
1) What does the second drum track do for us? Seems mostly intended to thicken up the sound of the high hat? That is a worthy goal. But the second track sounds just a bit ragged at times in the intro instrumental verse - probably because you had no drums on the BT to dial into for that part. I'm slightly tempted to edit it so that it kicks at the same time as the other drum track - beginning of the first sung verse.
2) This is generally a pretty restrained performance. Not sure, but I don't think you used any crash cymbal at all. The crashes, such as they are, sound like louder hits on your ride cymbal. Do I have that right?
3) If you wanted to bust loose a little bit more and rock a bit harder in the latter third of the song then that would probably be OK. It's always a bit of a balancing at to rock harder without overwhelming an acoustic ensemble, but might be worth a try.
4) You got an little bit of (but not too much) swing time going and it sounds really good on this song!
Like maybe a little more rollicking crash, bang, boom! A bit.more of a galloping feel? Like a little more gallump gallump gallump to go with the r
Surferbeto. - Great song ! Drum part sent ..... Please review... Thanks.
Surferbeto
b33zo Thank you John. That's a very soulful vocal. Thanks for stepping up to the plate (a baseball analogy).
Thanks Robert. If you can use this track you might want to give it some EQ, reverb etc. J
Hey, is that a stack of cassette tapes on the shelf above your keyboard? All my cassettes are in dusty boxes in the garage.
Thanks Rick! The mandolin adds a certain simple but pleasing je ne sais quoi to the whole proceedings. Cool.
Hi Jaugb, I would love to sing this, the main voice anyway. I am 65 and this was a favorite song when I was a little boy. If you have someone else in mind, no worries at all. :-)
Hello Byrdlander, thanks for your interest in singing this lovely song, please, go ahead. By the way, I'm 65 yo too, but this song wasn't known by me in Brazil when I was a kid, but it's never late. Regards!
I wonder how long this one will take to complete? We seem to have a shortage of good guitarists here on Bandhug.
ftele Are you up for it? It's OK if you're not. I'd like to ask someone else if you prefer to focus on something else.
ftele Is that one you'd like to do? I bet you do Robbie Krieger real well. FYI, I chose to do the shortened version (w/o the long organ and guitar solos). I figured we all sort-of prefer to spend a limited amount of time on each collab?
Eventually Eric drums sent any changes needed I might need to purchase extra meds :-)))
@Bdajaysus: Nailed it note-for-note, from beginning to end. Outstanding!! Pure perfection.
@CopyCat : CC to hear you say that means so much my friend, thank you sincerely
@Bdajaysus: +1 on what @copycat said. We just can't throw a curve at you! Again, love that rim beat and then the transition to full drums which adds excitement. Bet it took a few listens to figure out when to do the snare repeats (how do you call that?) at the of the shortened solo?
@pcderic: Eric I'm watching the time slot and listening , if it's very complicated I might write down the time slots for changes I also add the songs I intend playing to my spotify playlist Helps memory muscle
Man, that is brilliant, how you're basically playing two different instruments at the same time. And I thought the drums took coordination. It must have taken a long time to learn that playing style on keys.
Thanks! I still need to work on it but yes, it's the muscle memory that eventually kicks in. That'll be why it may take me lots of time on some collabs...
I will pass my turn on this one. I forgot to decline the invitation. Sorry for that.
Thanks for your reply Claude. No worries. I'm hoping this will free you for your work in Comf. Numb. :-)
CopyCat Let me know who you'd suggest, from your knowledge of the guitar part here and the styles of players we have in the BH pool?
@pcderic: I think Michmuch would be good to cover the guitars here, thanks.
Bass track for you Mr pcderic - I saved a mix to balance the levels a bit too . So many changes - damn - is this the high G or the low G at this part? dammit! haha
Thank you! Sounds great and tight. It certainly fills a void. It's perfect. Published!
On my end, it's the chord progressions G-D-C and G-C-D in verses that I keep mixing up.
@Eric : Thank you Eric. Did you try my mix? Bass is full volume in the published mix. Way too loud imo
@CyberBass: Ah, just noticed the Saved Mix feature. My problem right now is that I just redid my piano/organ track so I think I cannot reuse your mix. I'll try to adjust the mix properly and republish and let you review in a jiffy...
@Eric : You are correct, the saved mixes also save the tracks themselves. I saved a new mix if you want to listen.
@CyberBass: We're working at the same time on the same stuff so I'll back-off a bit for now. I just published my own mix (not knowing you were doing it too) but don't hesitate to let me know if what's there isn't as good as your mix? I also removed the BT to remove that crutch for our listening. Might have to put it back in for the guitarist...
Actually, I'm still not happy with my latest recording. I'll redo again. :-)
@Eric : Our own worst enemy eh? lol I thought it sounded good but you know best.
@Eric : The lowest level is the keys. The rest of the levels need to be dropped to balance it all out evenly.
@CyberBass: Correct. Especially with this song, there's some numbing effect going on. I think it's the singing that takes away my focus somehow (that's a compliment).
@Eric : Agreed. In my mix I dropped everything but the keys. Vocals too.
@CyberBass: I didn't even know that's where the band name came from. Just learned something.
@Eric : Lol - sorry didn't mean to mislead, I was just being stupid. I wanted running horses like Seger's album covers.
@Eric : Sorry about that - I tend to tweak the audio until it sounds right. But I have no ability to publish your collab. Anyway, my hands are off! The BT should prob stay until the last recording is in. Just lower the volume completely to remove it from the mix beforehand.
@CyberBass: Agreed, you wouldn't havenoticed it but I published after muting the BT, then I restored the BT volume for the next contrib w/o republishing. So I just wanted to hear how good it sounded w/o crutches. :-)
Sent in a track Eric , any changes needed do ask. Very impressive start @Eric and @CopyCat
Thanks so much, that's great! Very solid and pretty quick. Thanks for putting in the time to practice this one. It's not as common as other songs.... FYI, I trimmed your track by -0.090 to make it line up as closely as a could (looking in DAW in max. zoom). Let me know if you're OK with my operation. Your first hit is a snare and the song's is the bass drum so that threw me off a bit :-).
Listening to it, there's some timings that are off. I'm not sure yet where. I think it's the keys that need adjustment (or a retake)...
@Eric : yep happy with the changes , I know you can add your own count in which would have helped. CopyCat can add a count in if you ask and I can redo , it's never a problem. Bandhug count in is just default.
@Bdajaysus: I’ve been recording offline lately and using my own count-in with reaper. It’s just quicker to get started
@Eric : To add a count-in (would have to adjust all tracks afterward in DAW), add a track from YouTube - Artist: BandHug ,Song : Count In and choose from there
@CyberBass: That's a PITA! :-) I guess I prefer accepting imperfect beginnings and endings (to lots of UI refresh wait times). But for the endings (in future collabs), come to think of it, maybe I'll start including ending instructions from the get-go in the comments?
@Eric : haha - yes it is a pain for sure! I think we’re limited with endings on hug. Offline you can taper but not everyone works offline
@Eric : YvesC always edits his collabs with a count-in and count-out. They really sound polished
@Bdajaysus: Ok, Just to be clear, are you asking me to do this here or for our future collabs?
How does count out work? Asking cuz I normally prefer avoiding fade outs be finding a clean ending (although I haven't done enough of that on Hug)
@Eric : for the future Eric this sounds too good even with the few flaws I introduced deliberately (NOT)
The count in and out are embedded in backing track and it's a simple count of 4 for both. YvesC did it for one of my collabs I'll send you the link after I sort it on my pc as Collab is completed
@Bdajaysus: LOL, let's blame the green beer. Joking aside, I haven't heard any flaw but maybe it's because mine bother me more
I put our contest songs up on Facebook's Bandhug page don't forget to vote for them...

Hank87 I'm getting a real broke up playback in main studio....is it just my machine or is it everyone ? thanx....D.L.I.
Daniel_Isaacs - Hi Dan - Sometimes playback in studio is a bit funny....I think it is best to either listen to the published vid or in DAW....Unless I mis-understood ? Sorry,,,?
Hi Hank Here is a drum track for you, I hope it fits in ok, great vocals Hank.
I put our contest songs up on Facebook's Bandhug page don't forget to vote for them...
Hank87 yoshikoba Bdajaysus - Sounding great boys ! Just need tambo before we can submit ?
Hi Yoshi, everything sounds GREAT thank you very much. I added the ending vocal part could you add BV to that part too?
Thank you Hank..The ending vocal part is great!! There is no BV in your additional ending vocal part, so I think it's fine as is.
@Hank87: I did it, In addition, I lowered the sound of the acoustic guitar a little and made the drum sound louder.I hope you it.
Hi Hank I added the Bvs and Acoustic guitar tracks.. Acoustic guitar was not requested, but Brian seems to be playing acoustic guitar on this song, so I added it.I hope you like it.
Hi, Grant Thank you for the Drum track I was also looking for the drums to be dinamic like my cordswith some rolls, if you don't know what I mean we could talk live on Facebook messanger...
Hi, Grant Drums sound great Thank you for the Drum track I was also looking for the drums to be dinamic like my cords with some rolls, if you don't know what I mean we could talk live on Facebook messanger...
Hi Hank87 Here is a drum track, let me know if that is what you are looking for, as maybe a more hihat cymbal style maybe what you want, the drum kit is still in an old 60s sound that I used in the RollingStone song, plus my volume will need a tune down, tomorrow I will check out that other original that I have rudely not replyed to yet :-0
YvesC - Nice work Yves ! Well done ! Thank you very much ! Please also extend the thanks to your brothers !
YvesC, I think Frank is saying go forth and unleash the Krakken. We have his blessing.
Hi Fuss, yes, it's just in my demo I copied/pasted 4 times the same section. For the real collab, here, I will do real tracks :) Probably this evening.
MOAR Wall of YveS! I love the EMOTION he brings to this song. Plus it's SWEET He's in key! Mr.1138 can we unleash the Dr.FranknYves test-Monster? Swidt?
Fuss_Mussington YvesC - Gentlemen ! Explore and exercise your musical creativity as you feel !
Hi Frank thx1138 This one I have taken to the Max with very little emotion, let alone sweet, the volume will need to be dropped by heaps to find that sweet spot, sounds like a banger allready.
Grant - Superb my friend ! Sweetly Superb ! Amazing how a part like that is so essential to the song and you were awesome ! Thanks so much !
@thx1138: Thanks Frank I am glad you liked it, I think the volumes not bad, you could lower it some more, just so its sweet and subtle if you like :-)
@thx1138: Thanks for wishing me skill (as if there's no chance of that LOL). I just submitted a prelim track before dodo. I'll resubmit something tighter hopefully tomorrow. No need to publish.
YvesC - FYI, I'm not practicing/recording it like Ray M. would play it (left hand sounding like bass), to leave the room for the bass (which will definitely come out tighter with you playing it).
Hi, 4 months, still no bass player! I could add it on my stack if you'd like :)
ellervis Hi, just noticed you raised your hand on this one but that you haven't signed-in to BH for a while. Frank and I did a few Doors collabs recently. I was wondering if you'll really do it or if you decided to stop using BH? I don't want to jump ahead of you if you'll do it soon enough?
SingingWomble - Oh yeah ! Excellent ! Thanks man ! The LIZARD KING has arrived !
@thx1138: ...I can do anything. ... how it sounds is another matter, lol ;oD
Hey stubass - Thanks for inviting me for engineering. I noticed in the BT, at the beginning of the song, the bass cues all the other instruments to come in. Now that your bass track is recorded, I would like to delete the count-in track, and set the BT track back at zero, and realign the other tracks. This way, if someone chooses "BT Only" when they record, it will work as it should for them. If you're fine with that, I will go ahead with it. Thanks.
pcderic - It seems Laurast won't be accepting your invitation for BVs here. Perhaps another singer would.
@pcderic: According to her profile page ( https://bandhug.com/@Laurast ), Laurast hasn't been involved in a Bandhug collab in more than 3 years. And it appears she checks in only occasionally. That tells me she most likely would not be interested (but I suppose I could be wrong about that).
@pcderic: And of course, you can delete my name from the BVs invite, as I declined immediately upon receipt of my invitation. Only the LV was of interest to me.
hotpico - Hey Claude, this collab was started a month and a half ago. At this point I have to wonder, have you decided against playing here? It seems, normally people submit a track within a week or two. And then there are the ones who like to keep collabs on hold for an extended period of time.. Would you include yourself in that group? Just curious.
Hey CopyCat. I had informed Eric that I would need time for this project because I was traveling when he invited me and I had others to finalize upon my return before tackling this one. I started dissecting the guitar score this week but it will still take me a little more time because I have other priorities at the moment. No problem if you want to invite someone else, just let me know so I won't work on this one anymore.
@Claude : Forgive my misunderstanding. Will check back in another couple of months...
@Claude : No rush but do let us know if you won't get around to it within a few months? Thanks for your answer and thanks to CopyCat for these follow-ups.
@pcderic: I think it will be done in the next 2 weeks Eric. I'm working on it.
Hey CopyCat. Happy to be with you on a project. It's been a long time :-)
Hey pcderic - do you want me to fade out John's drum track? I can upload it as a BT. The sync settings will be the same but you will have to remove the original and change the ID on the new track. Let me know
I would be much happier with drums faded it would be better than a redo for me
I think I understand why you're suggesting this but I'm not sure of the imoact. Are you suggesting that after your operation, drums will be the BT and that a future lead guitarist won't be able to hear le lead guitar from the original BT?
(which may not be a real issue for a guitarist that knows what to play anyway?)
@Eric : Nooo, when you import a track that is not your own, you must import as a BT otherwise it will get my username stamped at the beginning when the video loads
Or, you insinuate that by making the drums (with fade out) the main BT, we'll remove the original BT (fromYoutube) whenever we want (if at all)?
@CyberBass: Thanks for clarifying for the newbie :-). Although I didn't mind the way drums ended the video, I also welcome a fadeout. Perhaps we wait at the end and see if that fade still makes sense?
@Eric : Happy to help Eric! You said that you wanted a nice ending to the track in the “next” collab - which I assumed was this one. The offer stands if you want it later.
@CyberBass: any trimming you take off here can you add it to the ending on Against The Wind please, I seem to have stopped short of the finish line there. Ohhh for a reliable drummer.....
Guys this is filling out soooo nice, did you do some eq on our tracks Eric ? Just wondering Great additions Rick and CyberBass
Can see my video but no sound. Downloading the recording but there is no audio. My USB device shows up but does not seem to record. It works with Audacity....sugggestions?
there are 2 drop-down menus, the one under talent is that of the audio interface and the other selects the camera. make sure your audio interface is selected and adjust the volume so that the slider is green and occasionally yellow.
Make sure you see the green bars above the video before you start recording. https://bandhug.com/v/QAgxiP
Hi @ carlo cppc sent in some drums for your deliberation I hope they get a C+
@carlo cppc: your markings are very generous but I am very happy to be part of the collab. Thank you Carlos
@CyberBass have you got anyone promised to sing this one yet? I'll give it a go if you like. I sang this with friends at a folk fest open mic once. I think I've got the falsetto chops to do it.
Surferbeto - Hey Surfer, yeah Fuss is signed up for this one. Sound intriguing! but I can't.
@CyberBass: Fuss will have fun with it and come up with something great and goofy. Rock on!
pcderic Hey sorry was working outside all day. I like the chillin bear. Published!
I like your bassline CyberBass! Bill Wyman played some pretty funky disco stuff on the original. Sounds like you're finding the groove. I have found studying this song's bassline to be kind of mind-expanding on one or two occasions.
@CyberBass: All the upbeat bass notes trip me out. I'm used to thinking of bass as being mostly about the downbeats.
@CyberBass @surferbeto - That exactly the stuff that makes us grow, ain't it?
Is there a way to listen to the playback without the Main imported track engaged? Maybe thats what John is hearing?
Hi guys, I'm starting practicing - and have just discovered that the song is severely out of tune. I have to tune my keyboards up for 35 ct (A = 449 Hz) in order to fit in.
@cbgb Bob, lead vocals resubmitted. Please review once again.
Hey Bob, lead and backup vocals submitted. Lead is not perfect. Will redo later. But please review. Thanks for having me on this collab.
Volume boost.
Hiya Bob. Bass submitted. Probably needs a volume boost.
